Confectionery & Desserts
Malt adds enhanced flavour to confectionery and gives it a premium edge. Malt extract is used in chocolates, caramels and hard candies to add natural colour, flavour depth and to improve mouthfeel. Extracts are a natural source of wholegrain derived sugars and are used as partial substitution for refined sugar additions in confectionary recipes. Unlike refined sugar, malt extract also delivers food value including protein, vitamins and minerals and anti-oxidant activity.
Colour and flavour profiles range from low colour high sweetness, through to caramalised mid tones and on to dark and intense liquorice type flavours.

Savoury Meals
Our products have an abundance of uses within savoury products, ranging from analogues in meat pies and pastries, to colouring in BBQ sauce. Malt extract lends pastries, sauces, soups and more a healthy, rich colour, and great depth of flavour. Some darker extracts provide an umami boost to enhance savoury recipes particularly in low salt formulations.
Our WholeSoft grains are sweet in nature, but make fantastic additions to savoury products. More than simple bulking agents, they add texture, chew, and of course, flavour. They also provide products with a positive health and wellbeing message as well as flavour and textural qualities.

Beverages
Liquid and dried extracts, as well as malt flours are widely used in beverages.
Beer and hot malted drinks may spring to mind, but malt products are also heroes in other beverages, such as smoothies, health drinks, energy drinks, iced coffee, milkshakes, and yoghurts. Improving flavour, mouthfeel, texture, and colour, they are a natural alternative to less desirable additives.
The benefits of using malt in drinks varies from product to product. Fermentability and flavour profile are core to micro brewing, whilst in malted drinks, producers look for the mellow taste and sweetness enhancement that malt adds.

Pet Food
The pet food market is highly sophisticated with trends and innovations frequently mirroring, or in some cases leading, that of the food industry. Wholegrain, anti-oxidants, allergen free, natural and additive free are common formulation attributes that are achieved using our ingredients. Malted ingredients have particular value in dry foods, where they increase palatability, improve nutritional value, and provide natural colour.
Processed cereals and malted grain ingredients are as relevant to the pet food industry as they are to the food sector. The ‘feel-good’ factor of malt increases product appeal, particularly where products are marketed as natural or healthy.
